The news has been awash with reports of scammers promising distressed homeowners a mortgage modification, taking payments, and then not performing. Everyone should notice that no facts and figures about scammers vs. successful negotiators are ever forthcoming. Why? Because it is in the banks’ best interest to scuttle the Home Affordable Mortgage Plan (HAMP) and turn public opinion against it. The FTC is playing into the hands of the bankers. They are doing exactly what the bankers want.

US Treasury admits HAMP effectiveness is a mirage

Several weeks ago I watched Treasury Secretary Geithner dodge questions about the mortgage modification mess that is HAMP (Home Affordable Mortgage Plan). The week before I watched as Press Secretary Robert Gibbs do the same thing. It is that the mortgage modification law exists, but the federal government, and Cobgress, are going to do nothing to enforce it. the case does accurately represent the larger fraud perpetrated by MERS. Recording fees were not paid to each county when the defendants, (read: the banks), used the MERS system. The case is going to have to establish the problems with the over all MERS operation.
